The proposed Pinilla School, which will be run by a private non-profit, will be for the children of foreigners, selected local students, and locals from the public school system; on full scholarships. The curriculum will be broadly liberal arts, incorporating local traditions and with a special focus on environmental/ecological education. The arts, sciences and humanities will be studied and practiced through this special lens.

The overall site plan will incorporate teaching and research facilities, community facilities, athletic fields, and an adjunct residential-commercial village, which will be a gateway between school and the city of Tamarindo. ‘Classrooms’ will be onsite and in buildings. Water and sun will be harvested, stored and reused. The entire process of inhabiting this site, a teak forest interspecies with the native guanacaste trees.
