This house was designed as a set of three wooden pavilions for a gently sloping site above an 85’ bluff overlooking the Pacific Ocean. They are connected to each other by a bridge and to the ground by a wide ‘natural’ ramp. There are dramatic views to the Santa Monica Mountains, Channel Islands and downtown Los Angeles, but lack of direct beach access and required setbacks limit views to the beach.

Four zones around an open court define the perimeter of the site: public spaces, private spaces, guest/pool house, and garage/service area. From the double-height volume enclosing the public spaces, there is an unobstructed view of Point Dume. The kitchen, media and dining rooms on the ground level are open to the wash, shade canopy and pool in the courtyard. The gym, garage and service areas are beneath the landscaped ramp that connects the street to the living room.
