From the Verandah, an experimental museum installation by a team of artists, an architect and museum professionals, is part of the West Coast-based initiative, “Awake: Art, Buddhism, and the Dimensions of Consciousness.” The installation was designed to increase awareness of Buddhist philosophy and how it can inform Western practices of art production, education, presentation and reception. The central architectural form suggests Japanese Buddhist temple and rock garden forms, with a verandah-like platform inviting the visitor to linger in a liminal space: between inside and outside, heaven and earth, art and life. Inconspicuous lighting at the base makes the verandah appear to float in space.
